Join us in the American Cancer Society’s mission to save lives, celebrate lives, and lead the fight for a world without cancer. The American Cancer Society is the only cancer-fighting organization discovering new ways to prevent cancer, fight and treat cancer, and improve the quality of life for people living with cancer. Cancer continues to be the second most common cause of death in the US. A total of 1.9 million new cases and 609,360 deaths from cancer are expected to occur in the US in 2023, which is about 1,670 deaths a day. COVID-19 has also resulted in extensive delays in cancer diagnosis, treatments, and life-saving prevention screenings.
The American Cancer Society has invested more than $5 billion in cancer research since 1946, with 49 grantees going on to win a Nobel Prize. While the lifetime risk of cancer is 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women, there has been a 32% decline in the cancer mortality rate between 1991 and 2019, which translates to almost 3.5 million fewer cancer deaths. ACS continues to advocate for improved access to care in all communities and provides critical patient support services across Texas.
